About Cookie Clicker
Cookie Clicker starts as a single cookie you click by hand and turns into a spreadsheet of grandmas, factories, portals and time machines producing cookies while you do something else. It is the game that defined the idle genre, and it is still the most complete example of it.
The depth is in the upgrade ordering. Buying the cheapest building is rarely optimal; what matters is cookies-per-second gained per cookie spent, and once you start tracking that the game turns into a genuine optimisation problem.

Tips for a better score
- Golden cookies are the single biggest source of progress — click them the moment they appear.
- Compare cost divided by cookies-per-second across buildings before buying, not just the price.
- Ascending resets your bakery but grants heavenly chips that make the next run far faster. Do it sooner than feels comfortable.
- Leave the tab open in the background; production continues while you work elsewhere.
Cookie Clicker FAQ
- Does Cookie Clicker keep running when the tab is closed?
- Only partly. Production continues while the tab is open in the background; closed-tab progress depends on the version and is much slower.
- When should I ascend?
- The usual guidance is to ascend once you would gain a meaningful number of heavenly chips — many players wait far too long on their first run.
- Is there an end to Cookie Clicker?
- Not really. There are achievements and a very long upgrade tree, but the game is built to be played indefinitely.
